GEMSBOK-UPINGTON: Upington Rolbalklub het verlede naweek ‘n geslaagde Veterane Enkels kampioenskap aangebied vir spelers bo 70 jaar.

Nege spelers het deelgeneem aan die strawwe kompetisie waar almal hul beste gegee het om as die veterane kampioen vir 2021/22 gekroon te word. To read more, read our 15 Oct 2021  issue.

Die seëvierende sokkerklub, Kakamas Sundowners, het verlede week  deurgedring na die volgende rondte van die Nedbank uitklopkompetisie wat in Kimberley beslis gaan word.

Despite all the challenges and uncertainty that the levels of lockdown bring, a Fly fishing invitational was recently arranged and successfully held, which came as a first for the Park.

The Northern Cape Tourism Authority (NCTA) was the main sponsor, with GT Productions and Kalahari Adventures as the event organisers.

The NCTA Augrabies Falls Fly Fishing invitational attracted 24 anglers with two, unfortunately, having to withdraw due to COVID-19.

The anglers came from Mpumalanga, KwaZulu Natal, Gauteng, Eastern Cape, North-West and the Northern Cape. All of them were so excited about being given the opportunity to fly fish in the Orange river in the Northern Cape and also inside the Augrabies Falls National Park.

Over a three day period they all rotated in pairs between three exceptional fishing sites, called beats, one inside the Park in the gorge at Echo corner and two outside the Park on private land. Typical of the current unpredictable winter weather, a cold front suddenly moved in making it utterly uncomfortable to be outdoors and a stiff climb to get out of the river gorge also provided additional physical challenges. Yet, the anglers were not one bit deterred by the extreme conditions, but rather saw it as a great adventure. In excess of 117 fish were caught and released and data recorded.
