Shortly after the Rustenburg Herald left the scene in Ikemeleng Township near Kroondal where disgruntled residents blocked the road with burning tires demanding the ward councillor to step down from her post, a fight ensued and police started firing rubber bullets to disperse the crowd. The same day the Rustenburg Herald was approached by Amanda Makgase, a resident in the township who alleges that the police fired rubber bullets at her even though she was not part of the protest. She alleges that the police got into her house and started firing without any reason. The Rustenburg Herald spoke to the police who said they were thrown with rocks from all directions while waiting to talk to march organizers, which is why they retaliated with rubber bullets.
