Written by Zandre. Posted in Clubs

The Buffelspoort Dam Canoe & Kayaking Club provides opportunities for those who enjoy sport and water, to learn how to canoe, in a racing kayak.

Canoeing goes forward (Rowing goes backwards), and canoes/kayaks race down rivers, in white water and aim to do long distance rivers around South Africa ie

Fish River Canoe Marathon 80kms in Cradock annually, The internationally recognised worlds toughest canoe endurance marathon - THE DUSI takes place between Pietermaritzburg and Durban annually - and many others.

The group of paddlers mastering basic skills at the Buffelspoort Dam, are "country members" of the Florida Lake Canoe Club in Johannesburg, in order to be affiliated to the Gauteng Canoe Union as well as Canoeing South Africa, to enable them to participate in official races, gain river proficiency certification which includes safety training, and earn qualifying river race points to achieve A grade status, when they can do A grade river races and have lots of fun on the way to gaining this status!!
