Theft of bakkies persists

BONUS – RUSTENBURG – The Rustenburg Herald has yet to find a connection between reports doing the rounds on social media and figures from the Rustenburg Police regarding the 30 Toyota Hilux bakkies which have allegedly been stolen in the past month. Yet one thing is clear: bakkies are being targeted and residents are being urged to be vigilant.

As was reported on the Rustenburg Herald website, the Rustenburg Herald has been inundated with social media reports claiming that more than 30 vehicles were stolen in the past month.

According to Captain Elsabé Augoustides, spokesperson for the Rustenburg Police, a total of nine vehicles were reported stolen in August.

The Herald has received information regarding cases which occurred on 5, 12, 19 (two cases) and 24 August but no more. For September vehicles were reported as stolen on 5, 6, 7 and 8 September. At least two of the above cases took place in Marikana and Mooinooi. The community is once again urged to be vigilant.
