BONUS - RUSTENBURG - A family attending the South African Championships for the Performing Arts at the Rustenburg Civic Centre was robbed and their vehicle was taken after returning to their accommodation on Saturday night (6 April).
The incident occurred at around 22:00. According to information received, the family returned to their accommodation for the evening and did not see two men slipping in through the security gates behind them. When they parked their vehicle, the two men accosted them and forced them out of the vehicle. One of the robbers was armed and the family was ordered to hand over all their valuables, including the keys of their Volkswagen Tiguan. The family was then ordered to lay down on the ground, while the robbers fled in the Tiguan.
A search for the vehicle was immediately launched and it was found about an hour later at a pub in Phokeng.
Members of the South African Police’s Flying Squad searched the pub for any suspects matching the description of the robbers, but no arrests were made.
Members of the Phokeng K9 unit, local SA Crime Community Watch and private security assisted in the search.
