BONUS – RUSTENBURG – The world’s largest producer of platinum, Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) has confirmed that it is in discussions with Sibanye Gold in relation to the sale of its Rustenburg operations but is still considering the option of a separate listing, the company stated last week.

Sibanye Gold, allegedly known for picking up “struggling” mining operations, was reported as having shown interest in Amplats’ Rustenburg mines since the company announced that it would look to sell its struggling mines in mid-2014.

Following the announcement of the sale, discussions seemed to have dragged on.

However, on Thursday Amplats announced that it was in talks with Sibanye which “may or may not lead to a transaction”.

No further details have been provided at this stage.
