Dexter returns

The anticipated sequel miniseries, Dexter: New Blood, starts on M-Net this week.

“I’ve always had my demons, and so I went away. But, sometimes, I have an urge too strong to ignore,” sums up the blood hungry serial killer.

Series fans’ favourite serial killer Dexter Morgan (Michael C Hall) will return in a 10-episode sequel miniseries, Dexter: New Blood, which will be set almost ten years after season eight’s finale. The sequel will once again bring together series star Michael C Hall and showrunner Clyde Phillips.

The reboot of the series will see Dexter living in a fictional New York town called Iron Lake. And the former forensic technician is now using the name Jim Lindsay, working at a store called Fred’s Fish & Game, and Dexter’s son, Harrison (introduced in season 4), will be involved.

The original eight-season run of Dexter starred Hall as Dexter Morgan, a complicated and conflicted blood-spatter expert for the Miami police department who moonlights as a serial killer.

The show became one of the most acclaimed series on television. Hall is a six-time Emmy nominee for Outstanding Lead Actor, the last five nominations coming in consecutive years for his work on Dexter. He also received five consecutive Golden Globe nominations and six Screen Actors Guild nominations for the role, winning both honours in 2010.

Couch Potato with Danie Jacobs and a chilling new drama series

Chilling new drama series

The North Water promises to keep viewers glued to their TV sets.

Premiering on M-Net at 22:30 on November 4, presents itself as a piercing look at the darkness inside men.

Set on a whaling ship in the 1950’s, it’s an intense look at what hard men, confined together, will do to each other and nature itself.

On board, the central tension is between the melancholy but moral Patrick Sumner (Jack O’Connell), an ex-army surgeon escaping his past and a drug problem, and the near-feral harpooner Henry Drax (Colin Farrell), who is ruthless, moral-free and mainly interested in blood and lust.

Drax is a monster of a man, uncivilized in thought and action.

Not only is the place falling apart, but it’s also inhabited by spirits of previous residents -- whom only Samantha can see and hear.

Ghosts spins the funny, heartfelt story about a newfound dream that reveals connection and self-discovery aren’t just for the living.

Death on a submarine

Vigil, a British police procedural miniseries created by Tom Edge and produced by World Productions (the producers of Line Of Duty, The Pembroke-shire Murders, Save Me, and Bodyguard), can be seen from October 11 on M-Net at 20:30.

The mysterious disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler and a death on board a Trident nuclear submarine bring the police into conflict with the Navy and British security services.

The six-part series will see Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva (played by Suranne Jones) investigate the death on board the Trident nuclear submarine HMS Vigil.

Although the death was written off as an accidental overdose, Amy suspects foul play. But, when the crew close ranks in the face of Amy’s questioning, a new threat overshadows her inquiry.
