SASSA reminds of Grant-In-Aid grant

Klerksdorp Record – SASSA reminds qualifying old age and disability grant recipients to apply for Grant in Aid if they are receiving extra care.

“This is an additional grant of R420, which if application is successful, the beneficiary will get on top of the grant already received. It is meant to assist the beneficiary with extra cost needed for his or her daily care,” explains the Regional Executive Manager, Zodwa Mvulane.

She says, SASSA realised that most of frail beneficiaries due to age or persons living with disabilities and requiring twenty four hour care, are not receiving Grant in Aid and could be qualifying for it.

Beneficiaries who wishes to apply for the grant should be in receipt of an Older Age or Disability Grant and require full time attendance by another person owing to his/her physical or mental disability. The applicant should also not be cared for in an institution that receives subsidy from government.

Applicants should be aware that they will be assessed by SASSA contracted doctors in order to ascertain that he/she needs constant care. Application for this grant can be done at the nearest SASSA Local Office. If an applicant is unable to visit the office, a home visit request can be done.
