According to the Minister, the purpose of the visit was to engage beneficiaries on progress made to date with regard to the social grant payment transition from the old white Sassa card to a new yellow card.

During the visit, Minister Shabangu encouraged beneficiaries to swap their cards for the new one by the end of August.

Generations: The Legacy actor, Kope ‘Tswyza’ Makgae who is affectionately known as ‘Mrekza’ was also there to engage with beneficiaries.

One of the beneficiaries, Dieketso Mere said she was pleased with the service she received on that day.

“I am impressed with the way I have been assisted. I thought that by changing an old card to the new card was going to take a long time and to my surprise, I was assisted within a short period of time and now I am a proud holder of the new Sassa card,” she said.

The Minister acknowledged challenges experienced by grants beneficiaries during the current social grant payment cycle.
“We are aware that beneficiaries experienced problems with the electronic payment of their social grants.

“What is being experienced is a result of a process of changing from an old to a new payment system for social grants.

“I would like to reassure you that the challenges encountered in the payment month of July will not occur again. The agency is working non-stop to ensure that the system does not fail the beneficiaries,” Minister emphasized.
