Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Two lawyers from Legal Aid SA’s office in Klerksdorp were awarded for exceptional work at the Legal Aid SA Free State North West provincial achiever awards held last week in Bloemfontein.
Makaziwe Qezu and René Botha were praised for the commitment and service excellence in their profession.
Qezu won the award for Lawyer of the Year - District Court and Botha, a civil legal practitioner was a second runner-up in the Civil Lawyer of the Year award.
Qezu was singled out as winner for her compassion towards her clients and colleagues.
“She copes with a full work load, large amounts of files and large amounts of administration, as well as the challenges associated with doing an outside court. She does not back down from a challenging cases and has tackled issues such as matters with huge numbers of accused (public violence/illegal mining) head-on. Even with management duties she is always willing to help,’’ says Thabo Koole, Provincial Communication Practitioner.
Botha’s outstanding knowledge of children’s matters as well as matters pertaining to the protection of the rights of children and women, helped her win the prize of second runner-up.
“She is very approachable and has an ear that listens. When her colleagues are unexpectedly ill, she attends to their matters without a blink of the eye. The Magistrates sing high praises about her work and her professionalism,’’ says Koole.
The Free State North West Provincial Executive, Tshotlego Makamedi congratulated both lawyers saying their commitment and service excellence contribute towards delivering quality service and making access to justice a reality for vulnerable people.
