Killer gets 38 years

Lentswe, Hartbeesfontein- A 31-year-old man was sentenced to 38 years imprisonment following the murder of Mozenani Aaron Lephadi (22) in Tigane in August 2014.

According to Sgt Amogelang Mabihi, the Klerksdorp police cluster spokesperson, Papiki Boitumelo Motabogi found his former childhood girlfriend chatting to a male friend while they were walking from a tavern.

“When the victim, Lephadi saw Motabogi talking to his girlfriend, he went to ask what was happening.

“Motabogi then took out a firearm and shot Lephadi, he was rushed to the clinic where he was declared dead on arrival.

“Motabogi then took the lady (28) at gunpoint to a house at Ext 4 Tigane where he raped her.

“The swift response of the police who acted on a tip off enabled them to find Motabogi still raping the woman, he was immediately arrested and a firearm was also found in his possession.”

The accused was in jail since his arrest.

He appeared before Stilfontein Regional Court on Thursday 14 March where he was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years murder, 5 years kidnapping, 10 years for rape and 8 years for possession of firearm.
