Local businessman applies for bail

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The bail application of controversial Gauteng businessman, Nico Matlala (40) who is charged with theft, is set to continue later this week.

The Commercial Court prosecutor, Peter Serunye who tried to grill the accused with questions found Matlala ready and responsive.
The bail application started at the Klerksdorp Regional Court on Tuesday 2 April and was due to continue on Thursday 4 April.
Matlala was arrested for allegedly defrauding the Matlosana Municipality of R1.8m.

During his appearance, Matlala was wearing blue and black with gold-striped sneakers.

Even though this notorious casanova was lately on a TV show called ‘No Excuse Pay Papgeld’ after allegedly not maintaining one of his kids, he told the court that he has 6 children that he maintains and two of them are staying with him at his home in Midrand.    
Matlala also declared that there are two criminal cases pending against him. He has no previous convictions. He was arrested for alleged theft of a Mercedez Benz and the other case in Johannesburg was for alleged theft of R890 000 at Standard Bank.

Prosecutor Serunye accused him of not complying with the bail conditions when he previously got bail. One of the conditions was that he must not be charged with the same offense.

During the bail application that is opposed by the state, Matlala agreed that the money from Matlosana Municipality was deposited in his account, but that it wasn’t his money as someone else had asked him to receive it for him.

He is represented by local attorney, Kenny Kgomongwe.
