Six teams, 3 from each stream, took part.
According to MLFA’s Marumo Mo-dieginyana, the purpose was to stream line teams from the first to the last when the two streams are combined.
In the first encounter that started at 10:00, Umzimuhle FC walloped Klerksdorp Young Stars FC 4-2.
And at around noon, Delfos Sporting FC locked horns with FC Porto and the latter; Delfos Sporting FC clobbered those 2-0.
In the last main game of the day, Majantja FC emanated victory when they trounced Red Lions FC 3-1 to become the 2017/18 season’s overall MLFA champions.
The MLFA competitions officer, William Matsi said the eventual step is to promote the teams to SAB Regional league in the new coming season of 2018/19. “Only two teams will be promoted to the regional SAB league and Majantja FC and Red Lions FC gained automatic promotion in the entire region because MLFA were the only ones who began the promotional league on time.
“The MLFA is considering lowering the years in the next season to under 21 and under 19 players in the promotional league the following season as part of development,” Matsi said.
Matsi supported the reduction of years as part of aligning themselves with SAFA’s vision 2022.
He alluded that it is imperative to develop younger players and equip them with soccer skills than to develop overage players. The competition officer asked teams to register young players to their clubs and relegate the oldies to the masters and legends leagues.
