According to Sgt Amogelang Mabihi, police spokesperson, the problematic area is Oudorp and this criminality is prevalent from Wednesday to Friday and the targets are the latest model of Polo Vivos.
“It happens mostly at night and the victims are people who have been visiting drinking places who are thereafter followed or hijacked before suspects flee with their vehicles.
“The public and owners of these cars are made aware of this crime and are requested to be careful when driving at night especially from drinking places.”
The other crime of concern to the police are theft of vehicles where double cab bakkies are mostly targeted.
“The vehicles are being stolen in parking lots of shopping malls, hospitals and all over Klerksdorp where they have been parked. The owners must ensure their cars are properly locked and all safety measures put in place including using car guards to watch their cars.”
She said the police remain committed to ensure the safety of the people and their belongings through regular patrols but they cannot be everywhere at all times.
