Fashion show for cancer

Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - With Klerksdorp being the fashion hub of North West, it seems only fitting that a one-of-a-kind fashion show will be held here.

This fashion show “with a difference’’ will have cancer fighters and cancer survivors for models. The fashion show is the brainchild of Mariette Jacobs, manager at The Hub in Matlosana Mall who says she is hosting the fashion show in an effort to help raise funds for Cansa in Klerksdorp.

“While doing research, I noticed that this could be a first, as all fashion shows in the past were for breast cancer awareness. This fashion show will have cancer survivors and fighters for models,’’ says Jacobs.

Jacobs lost her mother to aggressive kidney cancer in 2005 after a short illness lasting three weeks. A close friend of her was diagnosed with cancer in August this year and is undergoing treatment.

“I felt I needed to do something to help patients with cancer to stay positive. Cancer is a reality and the risk is so high. It doesn’t ask you your skin color, your financial status, your gender or even your age.’’

The fashion show with the support of Cansa Klerksdorp will be held on 28 November between 11:00 and 14:00 at the Checkers entrance (nr 4) in Matlosana Mall.

More exciting things are also happening with a balloon releasing ceremony for cancer survivors and for those who lost loved ones against the disease. Cansa will be involved that day to assist in selling cupcakes to raise much needed funds.

“I really just want you to experience the Day of Hope and to encourage people out there to make a difference in others life,’’ says Jacobs.
