BRITS POS – BRITS – Four lions (2 males and 2 females) were poisoned at the Chameleon Village Lion Park during the course of night of 5 and 6 November 2019.

“It is a huge personal loss,” says distraught owner, Hennie Pio “Thor, Mumford, Mia and Isis were part of our everyday lives and we even raised two of them. Workers notified me around 09:00 this morning (Wednesday) that the lions were dead.”

According to Pio, the suspects cut through the perimeter fence, entered the premises and threw chickens that must have been spiked with poison into the lions’ enclosure.

“At this stage it isn’t clear what the suspects intentions with the lions were, as no body parts had been removed and it might be that they were hindered in their final execution.”

The spokesperson for Brits police, Maria Nkabinde confirmed that cases of cruelty to animals and malicious damage to property have been opened at the Hartbeespoortdam police station and detectives are investigating.
