BONUS – RUSTENBURG – What started off as a routine delivery at the Checkers Hyper store at the Platinum Square in Rustenburg turned sour after four armed suspects proceeded to hold the delivery crew hostage and bomb a safe on Thursday morning, 20 April 2017.
According to Sergeant Oftense Mokgadi of Communication, Liaison and Marketing for the Rustenburg Police, at around 02:00 on Thursday the delivery truck driver had just parked at the receiving bay and was awaiting his crew who had entered to get trolleys when an armed suspect forced him out of the truck.
“The driver complied only to see once inside the store that the rest of his crew were held at gunpoint by three armed men. They were told to lie on the floor,” explains Sgt Mokgadi.
The suspects proceeded to enter one of the offices and bombed a safe with explosives causing damages estimated to be around R300 000. The contents of the safe cannot be confirmed at this stage.
