Young scientists stun with impressive innovations

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - A matric pupil of Curro Klerksdorp is the top Senior Eskom Expo scientist for the year. Aqil Variava was awarded the prestigious Prof Derek Gray Memorial Award for developing the “Pollution Index”, which is an investigation into water quality. Aqil researched water bodies in KZN, Gauteng and North West in a bid to develop a system that anyone can use to identify the quality of any water. He spent two years developing the system and won a gold medal at the Dr KK Expo in Potchefstroom. Variava received a whopping R75 000 cash prize for his outstanding project and a study bursary.
