Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Every day South Africans are doing extraordinary things, proving that a single act of giving can rewrite a story, restore hope, and even save a life.
On the crowd fundraising platform, BackaBuddy there are stories of generosity in motion: communities uniting, lives being rebuilt, and stories that remind us what South Africans are capable of when they stand together.
Take Project 44, a movement sweeping through Potch. What started as a small act of obedience has become a viral movement. Project 44, founded by Retsa Tsela (“Paving a Way”), is uniting residents to restore 44 Potchefstroom communities to their former beauty.
After being shared by Cool Things Bru, the campaign exploded online, raising R114 946 in just days, over its R15 000 goal. Beyond cleaning up neighbourhoods, Project 44 is rebuilding hope, pride, and unity.
In another success story, hundreds united to help a Pretoria family recover after a crash. On October 30, the Du Plessis family’s lives changed forever after a devastating motor vehicle accident near Roodeplaat, Pretoria. With no medical aid and their 15-year-old daughter Jessamé in need of urgent surgery, they turned to their community for help.
Within a week, 226 donors raised more than R228 000, allowing Jessamé to access critical care. The family continues to recover, surrounded by love, faith, and overwhelming support from across South Africa.
The platform also helped a 19-year-old raise funds to finish school and chase his basketball dreams. His BackaBuddy campaign raised R130 050 (100% of his goal), fuelled by donations from people inspired by his determination.
Atang’s journey is proof that when South Africans invest in their youth, they invest in a better future for us all.
