From growing tobacco plants to the disposal of cigarette butts, the whole life cycle of a cigarette takes a heavy toll on the environment. The ecological impacts of tobacco are serious. If you attend a market, festival, sport event, or any other outdoor event, chances are you’ll find a few cigarette butts on the floor. Smokers around the world buy roughly 6,5 trillion cigarettes each year. Trillions of cigarette filters- also known as butts or ends - are left over and only an estimated third make it into trash. The rest are casually flung into the street or out a window.
