Vaalriver in flood

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - With a fifth sluice gate open at Vaal Dam water levels in the Vaal River are expected to rise further, necessitating some properties close to the river to evacuate.

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) said earlier this week it continues to monitor registered dam levels and advise
the public to stay off rivers and dams as water levels continue to rise.

Bloemhof Dam was 111% full on Wednesday January 19 with water being let out at 1193m³/s.

Sputnik Ratau, the Spokesperson for DWS, said more water was being let out of the Bloemhof Dam and Vaal Dam after water levels in both dams have risen remarkably fast last week.
