Rev’s killer sentenced

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The killers of Rev Joseph Hollanders were sentenced by the North West High Court in Mahikeng for murder, robbery aggravating and theft.

Thabang Maseko (24) and Mongezi Molefe (27) were sent to jail two years after the brutal murder of the 83-year-old reverend.

His body was discovered at his house within church premises on January 13, 2020 in Bodibe Village. Maseko and Molefe were sentenced on January 14, 2022.

They were arrested with a third man only two days after the murder when the police found them to be in possession of the victim’s cellphone. The third accused was found not guilty.

Maseko was sentenced to thirty years imprisonment and Molefe to three years imprisonment.

Both were declared unfit to possess a firearm, said Capt Afjee Botma, police spokesperson.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, welcomed the sentences handed down. Kwena commended the investigating team led by Capt Saul Kotu and other role players including prosecution for their teamwork that resulted in the conviction.
