Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - The warm temperatures will persist up to the weekend. The South African Weather Service is forecasting a heatwave in some parts of the country with persistent scorching temperatures in Gauteng, North West, Mpumalanga, Free State, and parts of the Northern Cape.

People are advised to keep hydrated and limit outdoor activity between 11:00 and 15:00.

The expected temperature over the weekend is 37 ° C on Saturday and Sunday with no chance of rain. The morning temperature expected is 17 ° C.

“Extreme heat may result in heat rash, sunburn, cramps and edema, syncope and exhaustion, and in the worst-case scenario heatstroke which can lead to permanent disability or death if not treated urgently. Heatwaves do not just pose a risk to humans, but animals as well.”

The weather service recommends that all outdoor strenuous activities are suspended and to stay out of direct sunlight. If you have to work outdoors, wear loose-fitting clothing and a hat. The public should also ensure that their pets have enough cold water and shade. Remember to keep well hydrated, but avoid alcohol as it dehydrates the body.
