MAHIKENG MAIL-MAHIKENG: North West province has more 30 Political parties that will contesting for the 2024 National and Provincial elections while there are no independent candidates contesting this elections.

This was according to The Electoral Commission (IEC) Chairperson Mosotho Moepya who presided over the signing of the Electoral Code of Conduct and pledge in Mahikeng at the Seasons Wedding Conference. “There are 38 political parties in the North West contesting elections.  There are no independent candidates here and as you clearly see, this is a large number of parties. Voters here cannot say they are not spoiled for choices, they have a lot of choices. There are many voters so parties must go out and convince the citizens of this province and give them good reason to vote for them,” Mosito said. The pledge was signed by a senior representative of each party who are expected to adhere and commit to the code by: to lead their parties in a manner that will reinforce a culture of tolerance towards all other parties contesting election; to effectively counsel and advise all candidates on their party lists so that each candidate will in turn propagate a message of maximum tolerance; to publicly promote the eradication of no-go areas for political campaigns by political parties;  to desist from using speech or from participating in actions which will have the effect of provoking either parties’ supporters or members of the general public to commit acts of intolerance or take other inflammatory actions and to work together to achieve the objects and goals of the Code of Conduct. The IEC will be embarking with the signing of the pledge of code across the country as part of preparing for the upcoming election to be held on May 29 2024.
