MAHIKENG MAIL-MAHIKENG: An entertaining bout between Lucky Monyebane hailing from Dikebu Village, Moretele and Khanyisani Mbokazi for junior lightweight African Boxing Union title was a talk of the town after Monyebane knock out (K.O) in a ninth round in Midrand on Saturday night, September 30. 
Monyebane affectionately known as ‘The Genius of Boxing’ lived up to his nickname as he dominated the back and forth fight and delivered flurries of genius punches which lead to the K.O to win Junior Lightweight African Boxing Union title. 

His fans travelled all the way from Bojanala District in a bus packed to capacity to cheer him up.  Monyebane continued his winning form after claiming numerous victories ahead of the title bout. “The Genius of Boxing” continued with his unbeaten record by winning 6 fights in the row against Romeo Makwakwa two times, Sifiso Hlongwane, Thembani Hobyani and Koos Sibiya.  “I am humbled by the support given by the people across the province. This victory serves as an inspiration to upcoming boxers from the province and public at large. I was well prepared for this fight and my determination made me produce a KO said the champ. My plan now is to have international fights ahead of SA title” said champ Monyebane.  In another thrilling bout “The Rise of the Women In Boxing” international bout featured Bukiwe “Anaconda” Nonina (North West, Matlosana) versus Consolita Musanga (Zimbabwe) for junior lightweight. 
Former World Boxing Federation (WBF) and Former SA Champion, Nonina gave her best against experienced Zimbabwean Boxer Musanga in a nail biting that ended in a technical draw.  Nonina’s form has earned her 2023 South African Boxing Awards nominee under the category of Female Boxer of the Year.  She holds a record of 26 fights with 20 wins, only 4 losses and 2 draws. Shuping Sebolecwe, spokersperson for Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation (ACSR) said “we pride ourselves with our very own boxers from the province. This shows that the province is producing good boxers who are able to face opponents from other countries and provinces” “ACSR is committed to ensure that all sporting codes get equal share as we recently hosted ‘The Rise of the Women in Boxing’ recently in Klerksdorp” concluded Sebolecwe.
