MAHIKENG MAIL - MAHIKENG: The Ad Hoc Committee hearings in North West have been intense, to say the least! The committee is investigating allegations made by Naledi Municipality Mayor Clifton Groep against Premier Lazarus Mokgosi, claiming he tried to influence the appointment of the appointment of the Municipal Manager of Naledi Local Municipality.
The hearings have seen officials pointing fingers at each other, with former Corporate Service Director Thabo Appolus denying any wrongdoing and accusing Groep of fabricating a “tampering” narrative.

Appolus testified that he was misinterpreted and that there was no evidence to support the claims.
Segapo, the former Municipal Manager, has also weighed in, posting on social media that he’s bringing “all the smoke” to the hearings, hinting at explosive revelations.
While he testified on Tuesday this week, Segapo prepared a 15-point presentation which he wished to present to the Ccommittee to show his innocence. The Committee has heard testimonies from several witnesses, including Appolus and Segapo and is expected to hear from Premier Mokgosi soon. The allegations revolve around the appointment process of Segapo, which was previously deemed invalid and unlawful by the North West High Court due to procedural irregularities. The Ad Hoc Committee’s mandate has been extended until 31 March 2026, to allow for more witness testimonies and a comprehensive investigation.
