NOORDWESTER - LICHTENBURG - Coligny and Lichtenburg Crime Prevention, Lichtenburg K9 and Ottosdal Detectives worked together, following information received on suspects allegedly involved in a house burglary reported on a farm 30 April in Coligny, at about 03:00. During the housebreaking, various firearms were stolen from a safe, that was mounted on a wall.
Coordinated, intelligence driven information received, led the team to a farm near Blydeville in Lichtenburg in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday, 6 May. Four suspects were traced and arrested at two separate houses in the same vicinity for house burglary and theft. Two of the four suspects were allegedly also found in possession of seven stolen firearms and ammunition and were additionally charged. Police confiscated two shot guns, four riffles and one pistol with various rounds of ammunition.
The two suspects charged for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition appeared before the Lichtenburg Magistrate’s court. Mosimanegape Moloi (29) and Alfred Marope (29) were remanded in custody until Wednesday, 14 May for a formal bail application. Two other suspects, including Moloi and Marope appeared before Coligny Magistrates court on charges of housebreaking and theft. Investigation into these cases continues.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng said: “The South African Police service has identified and regard the proliferation of illegal firearms, which are used to commit serious contact and property related crimes, as a serious safety and security threat that must be eliminated at all costs.
“The arrests of these suspects and the recovery and seizure of the illegal firearm and ammunition is yet another commendable success by the dedicated, hardworking members of the SAPS. Further investigation in this case including previously reported cases will be positively linked to other undetected cases in the area.”
