STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: Young learners from ten primary schools in Vryburg, Colridge, and Huhudi have united through the annual Primary Sports Development Programme, a year-long initiative promoting sporting excellence, personal development, and community cohesion.
Funded by Waterloo Solar, the programme provides learners with an opportunity to develop skills, confidence, and character while encouraging active and healthy lifestyles.
As part of its commitment, the solar plant funded sporting equipment, team kits, and coaching resources. Waterloo Solar also partnered with local schools and educators to ensure competitions were well-structured, inclusive, and beneficial to all participating learners. “This programme is part of our broader commitment to community upliftment. By investing in youth, we are building future leaders who will contribute positively to society. Sports development also ties into our focus on education, health, and social cohesion. Through this initiative, we’re not just supporting a game, we’re shaping a generation that values teamwork, determination, and excellence,” said Qinisani Siveshe, Social Performance Manager. Running from April to November 2025, the programme includes five sporting codes, football, netball, cricket, basketball, and chess. Weekly matches are combined with structured training sessions and ongoing mentorship from dedicated coaches. Beyond sport, the programme fosters respect, discipline, teamwork, and resilience, equipping learners with essential life skills. “This programme is about more than sport; it is giving our kids the confidence to believe in themselves,” a parent commented. The season will end with finals in October, followed by an Awards Gala on 28 November 2025, where achievements in talent, sportsmanship, and personal growth will be recognised. Looking ahead, organisers hope to expand the programme to include additional sporting codes such as athletics and volleyball, depending on community needs and available resources.
