Lentswe, Potchefstroom - A passionate K9 handler, Sgt Gaogakwe Mabaso, was handed a commendation certificate while his fire detection dog, Erin, received a medal for dedication, commitment and appreciation for canine services. The handing over took place during a weekly Operation Shanela parade at Westpol Square. 
The memorable moment for Mabaso and his dog, began when they assisted in solving a robbery, murder and arson case. 
The crimes were committed in 2018, in Tlokweng village, Madikwe. It was reported that four suspects stormed Sunrise shop, then robbed the shop owner of some cash and thereafter set the shop on fire. As a result, the victim sustained serious burn wounds and later died in hospital. 

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Provincial Commissioner of the North West, Lt-Genl Sello Kwena accompanied by the deputy provincial commissioners and district commissioners, conferred ranks to 13 newly-appointed station commanders. The conferment took place on Friday May 10 at the South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Office in Potchefstroom.

Lentswe, Stilfontein - The second kidnapping for ransom in as many weeks in the Stilfontein/Khuma area brought together a specialised team consisting of hostage negotiators, police officers, the air wing and private security firms working around the clock to bring the kidnappers to book.

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The N12 between Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom is also a hotspot in the recent vehicle spiking incidents. According to the Motor Industry Staff Association these incidents are born out of desperation and the dire social economic state amongst the 11,7 million unemployed South Africans. “This is not organised crime syndicates or sophisticated crimes, but rather a situation of desperate people realising motorists at night are isolated soft targets.
