MAHIKENG MAIL - NOORDWESTER: In a bold step toward revitalising township economies and fostering inclusive growth, MEC Bitsa Lenkopane last week engaged with Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs) at the newly established JB Marks Industrial Park in Ikageng Township.
The engagement marked a significant milestone in the province’s efforts to localize economic development, reduce unemployment and promote sustainable entrepreneurship.
Lenkopane was joined by JB Marks Local Municipality MMC for Local Economic Development, Cllr Malverine Davis and Director of LED Dr Roberts-Tebejane who reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting MSMEs. The MSMEs represented diverse sectors, including Agro-processing (Benefiting from targeted interventions like access to funding and skills development), Electrical Power Wiring and Installation (Poised to receive mentorship programs and market linkages), Hospitality Management (Equipped to grow and access broader markets), Laundry services (supported by DEDECT and its partners for comprehensive development, Tailoring and Clothing Design (sharpening skills through business training offered by Absa and Carpentry and Woodwork (empowered to thrive and contribute to the provincial economy).
MEC Lenkopane emphasised creating enabling environments for SMMEs, stating, “As government our goal is to ensure every MSME receives necessary support to scale operations and contribute meaningfully. The department will continue monitoring progress, ensuring MSMEs are equipped to grow and access broader markets.”
