BONUS - RUSTENBURG - "Vala Umgodi" operations led to the arrest of 39 suspects between Thursday, 3 and Saturday, 5 October, in Sun City and Mooinooi.
All 39 suspects, including 34 males and five females, were nabbed for contravention of Section 49 (1)(a) of the Immigration Act, (Act No. 13 of 2002). Out of the 39 suspects, ten were also charged for illegal mining and eight for being in possession of wrought material. All 39 suspects were scheduled to appear in the Brits and Mogwase Magistrates’ Courts respectively on Monday, 6 October.

What started 15 years ago with a few brave souls running through peak hour traffic in speedos to raise awareness about cancer, has become a nationwide phenomenon that brings attention to prostate and testicular cancers.

UNICEF and WESSA launch “Green Rising” to enhance youth climate action and environmental sustainability
BONUS - RUSTENBURG - In celebration of Arbor Week (1-7 September), UNICEF South Africa in partnership with WESSA (Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa) launched the Green Rising “Protect and Restore” Project, an initiative that tackles the pressing issue of biodiversity degradation in South Africa’s schools and communities.
The project aims to engage 10 000 youths from 60 schools across the country and UNICEF Campus Clubs, to restore 100 hectares of land and collect 500 tons of waste by June 2025.
SANRAL cautions public of severe weather conditions
BONUS - RUSTENBURG - The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has encouraged the public to heed the warnings of severe weather conditions predicted by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) from Sunday, 29 October, through to Tuesday, 1 October 2024.
The conditions include heavy rains and extremely low temperatures, with snowfall expected in some parts of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces.
