MAHIKENG MAIL - MAHIKENG: The MEC for Community safety and Transport Management in the North West province, Wessels Morweng, has been accused of interfering with the recruitment process of traffic officers.
The widely spread allegations suggested that the MEC manipulated the list of selected candidates replacing names with those of their own allies and associates, who allegedly sponsored the past ANC Youth League conference that saw him elected as its Chairperson. This alleged interference has sparked concerns about nepotism, corruption, and unfair practices in the recruitment process.
The serious allegations implicated ANC members including those who were in the ANCYL, Premier Lazarus Mokgosi and those who sponsored the recent ANCYL conference. The accusations indicated that the MEC’s actions undermined the merit-based selection process potentially compromising the integrity of the traffic officer corps.
With the list leaked on the social media platforms, which matched the suggested names of those who were placed on the list, showed a serious breach of public trust and could lead to unqualified or unsuitable individuals being appointed to critical positions. The allegations also raise questions about the MEC’s motives and whether the actions were driven by personal or political interests.
The incident has highlighted the need for transparency and accountability in government recruitment processes. To restore public trust, a thorough investigation into the allegations should be conducted and if wrongdoing is found, those responsible should be held accountable.
According to the Departmental Spokesperson, Oshebeng Koonyaditse, the department was going to reply after appearing before the Portfolio Committee oversighting on Thursday.
