MAHIKENG MAIL  - MAHIKENG: The original plan, idea, intention and programme which the founder of the arts, sports and culture foundation, the late Kgosi Lucas Mangope had in mind when he established the foundation must be revitalised and or revisited.

This was the views of both the Acting Premier of the North West, Kenetswe  Mosenogi, the mayor of the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality, Khumalo Molefe and other speakers who paid moving tributes to the late Presley “Cobrizi” Chweneyagae  during his memorial service in Mmabatho on Tuesday.
Addressing hundreds of mourners who came from all over the country including neighbouring Botswana and Swaziland, Mosenogi said Pressley played a leading role in contributing to the development of the arts at the Mmabana Cente where, at only ten years old,  he started his acting carrier through his participation in story telling, theatre, drama, poetry, music and television and film professions showcasing his pragmaticism and reaffirmed his status as one of South Africa’s most compelling actors - a trajectory that would culminate in breaking into international stardom when Tsotsi won an Oscar in 2006.
“He was more than an actor. He was a mirror of our identity, a champion of our people, and a symbol of what is possible for every young boy and girl from the rural heart of the North West,” she said.
The Acting Premier suggested that her government would lead programmes to ensure that the Mmabana arts centre was re-structured to rebuild the venue in accordance with it’s former programme where young people would be nurtured to become superstars like Chweneyagae, and all other former students who have become world renowned stars of note worldwide. She was supported by Cllr Molefe who called on the provincial administration to rename both the Mmabatho Convention Centre and the Mmabana Arts, Culture and Sports Centre to the “Presley Chweneyagae Convention Centre or the Presley Chweneyagae Ars, Culture and Sports Centre”.
“As Acting Premier of the North West Province, I stand here to say: Presley Chweneyagae was one of our finest,” concluded Mosenogi.
