MAHIKENG MAIL - MAHIKENG: The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) marked a new chapter for its Mahikeng branch with the inaugural Sub‑Regional People’s Assembly (SRPA) at Monakaladi Gardens in Dihatshwane.
A total of 64 gender‑representative delegates, elected from the municipality’s 35 wards gathered to vote on a new Sub‑Regional Command Team (SRCT).

The newly appointed SRCT, composed largely of young, energetic EFF loyalists, expressed confidence that the party was poised for a resurgence ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
In his declaration, Secretary, Refentse Motale declared the ANC’s dominance in Mahikeng effectively over, asserting that the party would not return to power after next year’s polls.
He urged delegates to carry the assembly’s enthusiasm back to their branches and to mobilise both party members and the broader community to prepare for a change in municipal leadership.
The assembly’s timing follows heightened scrutiny of Mahikeng Local Municipality, which has faced allegations of corruption and persistent service‑delivery challenges, as highlighted in a recent report by the National Assembly’s Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance.
Delegates were instructed to convey the SRCT’s message of optimism and to encourage residents to ‘lace up their bootstraps’ as the EFF aims to address long‑standing grievances and improve municipal governance in the area.
