MAHIKENG MAIL - MAHIKENG: More than forty Managers of Community Arts Centres from around the North West recently gathered in Mahikeng for a workshop on enhancing their work in the community.
Under the auspices of the North West Federation of Arts Centres, the workshop sought to gather ideas and lessons on how Centre Managers can turn their work into community development, using the power of the arts.
The Federation is an NPO that is supported by the Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation (ACSR) to train community members in arts-related activities. The five-day training was geared towards helping Centre Managers understand their role in community development. The training is accredited by the South African Qualifications Authority (Saqa), at level four.
“As a department, we are determined to help make arts a meaningful aspect of community life,” said ACSR Spokesperson, Shuping Sebolecwe. “This particular intervention will help our Community Arts Centres Managers understand their roles in society, and work in tandem with other development workers, for the benefit of the community. The whole exercise is centred around empowerment.”
