BRITS POS – HARTBEESPOORT - Diligent investigations by the Bojanala sub-district 1 (Brits) detectives, Hartbeespoortdam detectives and community members, led to the arrest of three suspects between the ages of 22 to 37.
This came after the body of a 34-year-old man was allegedly found in the bushes near Xanadu Estate in Hartbeespoort on Wednesday, 16 April 2025, late in the afternoon.
According to information received, a male person (21) was passing from Xanadu Road with his uncle, when he noticed a lady (34) coming from the bush, who wanted to board a taxi that was parked next to the road near the estate. He recognised this woman as part of a group, who allegedly robbed him the previous week on Tuesday, 8 April.
The 21-year-old alleged that he was robbed by suspects pulling knives, while he was on his way to a nearby college to drop off sports equipment. He was allegedly robbed of many soccer balls, his glasses and a jacket. His vehicle, a Volkswagen Polo, was later found abandoned in the nearby bushes.
After intercepting the women, they called a neighbour for assistance, who works for a local security company, who after checking in the nearby bushes, discovered the body of a 34-year-old man, at the same spot where the victim’s car was allegedly found the previous week. Police were informed about this gruesome discovery at about 20:00 that same evening. Further investigations led the police to Brazzaville Section in Atteridgeville, Gauteng, where three suspects (a woman and two men) were arrested. Initial investigations revealed that the woman, who was allegedly working as a “lady of the night” (a woman who engages in prostitution), would work together with the men to rob potential clients.
During the arrests, police confiscated numerous cellphones and other items including the sports equipment, robbed from the 21-year-old.
The Trio, aged between 22 and 35, were apprehended and charged with murder and robbery. They appeared before the Brits Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 22 April and will re-appear for bail applications. Investigation into this matter continues.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng applauded the team for their collaboration that led to this success.
He encouraged community members and security companies to continue to work with the police in the fight against crime.
