BRITS POS – BRITS - The police in Brits finally brought to book one of the wanted suspects who are believed to be behind a spate of carjackings allegedly committed in Brits, Mooinooi, Bethanie and surrounding areas.
The police received information on Thursday morning, 2 October 2025, about the suspect’s whereabouts.
A team comprising Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2 Detectives, an Intervention Team, the Brits Crime Combatting Unit (CCU), the Trio Task Team and the Rustenburg Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) was established and ultimately pounced on the suspect whilst driving a hijacked Volkswagen Polo in Brits.
Following the interview, he led the team to Soshanguve where his accomplice was spotted driving in a reportedly hijacked blue Ford Ranger vehicle. The police retaliated after the suspect allegedly opened fire on them when they tried to stop him. The suspect sped off, and the police gave chase, but the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, disappearing into the dark. The vehicle was later confirmed to be hijacked at Mooinooi in May 2025.
The arrested 34-year-old suspect faces five counts of carjacking, three of kidnapping, one of murder and one of possession of a suspected stolen vehicle. The possibility of additional charges cannot be ruled out. He appeared before the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 6 October 2025.
