A Cash in Transit high-profile robbery was reported around 08:00 on Monday, 6 October on the N4 Bakwena Highway. The cash van was travelling from Rustenburg to Brits and just between Mooinooi and Majakaneng village, a vehicle allegedly crashed into the cash van forcing it off the road to stop, as suspects fired a barrage of shots at the cash van and an escort vehicle, allegedly executed with precision.

An occupant of the escort vehicle was fatally wounded and pronounced dead at the scene. The South African Police Service (SAPS) in North West, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) and emergency services and traffic members arrived at the scene. It was declared a crime scene and cordoned off. Traffic was brough to a halt and could eventually only be diverted to Mooinooi to reach Brits via the R104 until around 18:00. Cash in Transit vans are often targeted in high-profile robberies, sometimes involving explosives or other tactics to stop the vehicle and access the cargo. No further information has been made available, as the Hawks took over the investigation. (Photos: WhatsApp)
