BONUS - MARIKANA - Engen, in collaboration with Tharisa Mines, is proud to announce the rollout of a cutting-edge solar power system at Marikana North High School, marking another milestone in the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and education.

The newly installed 15kW portable solar container represents the latest evolution in Engen’s solar initiative. This advanced unit features a battery backup system, ensuring uninterrupted power supply even during outages. The system will provide clean, renewable energy that reduces reliance on the national grid, lowers electricity costs, and cuts carbon emissions - while reliably powering the school’s Maths and Science laboratories to support continuous teaching and learning.
Beyond powering classrooms, the solar solution serves as a living laboratory, introducing learners to clean energy technologies and inspiring interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) careers.
For many years, Engen and Tharisa Mines have worked hand-in-hand to support learners at Marikana North High School. Together, they have funded matric bootcamps, distributed study guides, and provided ongoing resources to improve academic outcomes. This sustained collaboration reflects a shared commitment to uplifting the Marikana community and empowering learners with the tools needed for success.
“Education is the cornerstone of progress, and by supporting both academic resources and sustainable infrastructure, we aim to empower the next generation with opportunities to thrive in a technology-driven world,” says Olwethu Mdabula, Engen CSI Manager.
