Lentswe, Orkney - The home of the former ANC Councillor charged with murdering his wife was damaged in a petrol bomb attack last week. A vehicle parked outside the house was also set alight. Kanana SAPS are investigating cases of arson and malicious damage to property. No one was injured in the attack and it can only be speculated that it has to do with the murder charge against Sibusiso Kula.

He appeared in the Orkney Magistrates Court on Friday October 13. Prosecutor Bridget Seiphehlo said the state was ready to go to trial in the murder of Jennifer Mohlomi. Magistrate Benjamin Letsholo postponed the matter to be heard in the Klerksdorp Regional Court on November 22.

Kula is represented by attorney Gcina Dlanjwa. He was also provided with a list of witnesses, as was instructed by the High Court when granting him bail. He is currently on R50 000 bail following his appeal to the High Court on the Orkney Magistrates’ Court decision to deny him bail. He was ordered to surrender his passports, report twice a day at the nearest police station, provides the investigating officer with his work itinerary, report to the investigating officer if he must move outside his residential jurisdiction, and have no direct or indirect contact with his children. His bid to have the case struck off the roll was previously rejected by the court.

Police reports reveal that Kula’s wife was found murdered in November 2022, in what seemed like a robbery. She was found with a stab wound on her back but the object that was used to kill her has never been recovered.

The matter was reported by the medical facility where she was transported to by the accused. The accused allegedly told the police that he was not present at his home when the incident occurred. In January, Kula was charged with his wife’s murder.
