Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena repeated that police across the province will continue to squeeze the space for criminals when responding to serious and violent crimes through Operation Shanela, which is focused on enhanced crime prevention and combatting.

“Consequent to operations conducted between March 11 and 17, a total of 1 260 suspects were arrested for various crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and common, dealing in drugs, illegal dealing in liquor, possession of drugs, burglary at business and residential premises to driving under the influence of alcohol,” said Brig Sabata Mokgwabone, police spokesperson.

He added in addition, 53 suspected undocumented persons were taken in for processing by Immigration Officials.

“During the operations, 170 premises, 1 606 persons and 742 vehicles were searched. 
“Moreover, the police working together with other law enforcement agencies confiscated alcohol, ammunition, cash, cellular phones, contraband goods, and a variety of drugs, seven handguns, and 122 kilograms of copper cables, tobacco products and vehi-
cles.” 

The Provincial Commissioner welcomed the results attained and encouraged law enforcement agencies to work hard towards building safer communities.
