Lentswe, Jouberton - Thirty years of democracy is celebrated this year, but the plight of the poor is still a huge problem.
Jerry Griqua, a well-known local community worker, talked to people in the township on behalf of his foundation to see where he can help.

‘The need is huge,“ he told Lentswe.

Fikile Butibuti Machotyane of 4426 At Ext 7 East Jouberton told him about ongoing sewerage problems. He said he reported the sewerage five times but the municipality didn’t come and fix it. He said they can’t even sleep as the smell is so bad at night.

He also said the kids are playing on top the sewerage and he is scared they may get sick. People who pass his house have to close their noses. “We need help as a community of Ext7 East,” he said.
Jerry also talked to Jan Nteo from 4224 Ext7 East Jouberton.

“He is 68 years old and has been staying here since 1990, but never received a RDP house,” Jerry said.

“It is wet inside the shack. The roof is rotten and I can’t afford to fix it. I went to Klerksdorp housing and when they checked they said my house was approved but I didn’t receive it. Please help us,” said Note.

Josphinah Tsholofelo Sekang of 4307 Ext7 East Jouberton said her shack is leaking.

“I put plastics up when it rains and looks after the kids and I support my nephews. I’m a pensioner and I need RDP.”
