Lentswe, Klerksdorp - “We are not construction mafia. You can’t label us like that. We represent the poorest of the poor and will continue doing that.’’ This is how an upset Mzukisi Jam reacted to the report in last week’s Lentswe in which he was identified as one of the trespassers against whom a court order was issued earlier barring him from the construction site in Buffelsdoorn Road. Jam is provincial spokesperson of the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO).
Traditional healer stabbed
Lentswe, Stilfontein - A traditional healer, Koketso Peterson (34), was killed with a sharp instrument at his home in Khuma. A 57-year-old Moses Bongani Zulu was remanded in custody upon appearance in the Stilfontein Magistrates’ Court on Monday August 26. He was charged with murder. Zulu is expected to apply for bail on Monday September 2. “Reports suggests that Peterson was allegedly leading a traditional healing school, where Zulu’s girlfriend was a student,’’ said Col Adele Myburgh, police spokesperson.
Mall trespassers ignore court order
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - A court order issued last week against so-called trespassers or inciters at the new Village shopping centre that is being erected in Buffelsdoorn Road seems to have mostly been ignored. Work on the new shopping centre came to a standstill a bit more than two weeks ago when employees on the site were intimidated and chased away by the so-called Construction Mafia, who demanded jobs. Lentswe was told that the contractor feared for his life.
Sewer blockages raises concerns
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Matlosana Municipality says a number of sewer system blockages are affecting the area due to abuse of the system. Recently in a heart-breaking discovery, municipal workers found the lifeless body of a baby while clearing a blocked sewer manhole in Jouberton. “The tiny body, abandoned and alone, showed no signs of life. The circumstances surrounding this tragedy are unclear but it is being investigated,’’ said Ntswaki Makgetha.
New NPO aims to protect heritage
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Cultural heritage is that which defines a nation, that which makes people proud, that which defines their values in a world and the significance of that which has happened yesterday pales against the background of the instant gratification offered by the glamour of social media and even mainstream media.
