Klerksdorp Record, Potchefstroom - The Golden West Quilters Guild held its bi-annual quilting competition in Potchefstroom.
The guild consist of three local guilds from Carletonville, Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp. The Quilting Bees from Klerksdorp had a record number of 24 entries into the competition as all the members were proud to compete, many for the first time.
Maryna Behr and Elise Eksteen scored a second and third place in the beginners category. Seasoned quilter Hanneke Badenhorst was awarded a third place in the miniature category, a second place in the traditional category and her quilt in the traditional category was voted viewer’s choice.
Jossie Williams placed second in miniature and her quilt was also voted viewer’s choice in this category.
Izell Jooste took first place in the traditional category and Lorraine de Beer fourth place. Magriet Swart and Jossie Williams worked together in the collaborative category, scooping both the first and second place. Martha van Aswegen and Elizabeth de Haas received third place.
