Klerksdorp Record, Hartbeesfontein - A multi-vehicle accident on the R503 between Klerksdorp and Hartbeesfontein left several people injured and disrupted traffic for hours over the weekend.
The accident occurred on Saturday October 4, at approximately 13:00. According to an eye witness report, a white Toyota Yaris was overtaking a taxi travelling from Klerksdorp toward Hartbeesfontein when the taxi made contact with the rear of the Toyota.
“The Yaris veered off the road and overturned, landing on its roof in nearby bushes. A white BMW, travelling in the opposite direction, swerved in an attempt to avoid the overturned Yaris. In the process, the BMW crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with the taxi.’’
The taxi was not operating commercially at the time and was carrying only the driver and a passenger. The taxi driver reportedly attempted to leave the road to avoid the BMW, but the impact was unavoidable.
The BMW’s passenger sustained serious injuries, while other individuals involved were treated for non-life-threatening conditions. All injured parties were transported to Tshepong Hospital for medical care. Traffic on the R503 was diverted while the scene was cleared.
Brig Sabata Mokgwabone, police spokesperson, confirmed that the accident is being investigated.
