Klerksdorp runners made their mark in the recent marathon, Let’s Go Potch, that was held in the student city. The runners are training partners, share training ideas together and always strive to better their marathon times. Pictured is Abe Nkomo (third place), Diketso Radebe (second place) and Tolo Mooketsi (winner). This is the first time that all three of them were on the podium.
We are the champions
South Africa has won the Rugby World Cup, beating New Zealand 12-11 in a rain-soaked heavyweight tussle at the Stade de France on Saturday October 28. They certainly did it the hard way – and prevailed. It’s almost ridiculous – how on earth does a team anywhere, in any sport, win three colossal matches by one point each time? France, England and New Zealand will look at this in the days and weeks to come and think ‘how did that happen?’ Well, the Springboks happened.

Good year for NWU
Lentswe, Potchefstroom - There were few to no eyebrows raised on Wednesday evening 4 October when Vernon Paulo, the NWU’s point machine, was named the NWU Rugby Institute’s Player of the Year. Paulo was rewarded with the Johan Claassen trophy for his performance in the Varsity Cup and was exceptional throughout. Not only did he score the most tries in the competition - truly a rarity for a solid forward - but his work ethic and leadership were also some of the most important qualities throughout the competition. Tino Swanepoel was named the Varsity Cup Player of the Year and supporters will long remember this versatile player’s magnificent tries during the competition.
