Lentswe, Alabama - The Alabama community is ta-king a stand against crime, particularly gender based violence, in the form of a peaceful demonstration on Monday January 26. The protest will be held at the N12 circle (entrance of Ext 3 Alabama and Jouberton) and will proceed on the N12 to the entrance of Tower Mall.This is an organized march and the organizers have applied in terms of Gathering Act, 1993 ( Act no 5 of 1993) under Section 3 of the Act.
Standing on the equator
Lentswe, Stilfontein - To visit Kenya and actually stand on the equator was a dream come true for Sheila Bome from Stilfontein. This mom of two boys only read about the equator in textbooks learning Geography up to matric so to get the opportunity to visit Kenya was a once in a lifetime opportunity for her. “Being a 100% village girl from Taung, the equator felt just like line-on-a-map thing - something abstract, something that I use to only imagine in my head. So the fact that I actually stood on it with my own feet is very special to me,’’ she told Lentswe. Sheila works at the Stilfontein police station. She visited Kenya last year.
Cattle recovered in Kanana
Lentswe, Kanana - Eight cattle were recovered during a police operation in Kanana. The police arrested two men over the weekend in connection with a case of stock theft reported in the area. The police supported by the Provincial Crime Intelligence Overt Team, Provincial Criminal Record & Crime Scene Management and the Stilfontein Stock Theft and Endangered Species (STES) Unit arrested the men on Saturday January 17.
Parliament slams taxi driver’s actions in crash
Lentswe, Vanderbijlpark - The tragic loss of 12 learners in a horrific Gauteng taxi accident has drawn sharp condemnation from Parliament, with Makhi Feni, Chairperson of the Select Committee on Education, Sciences and the Creative Industries, unequivocally labelling the incident as “pure criminality”. The statement follows the emergence of dash-cam footage revealing the reckless driving that led to the fatalities.
The shocking video, now circulating on social media, depicts a 14-seater minibus taxi attempting to overtake numerous vehicles on a narrow two-way road.
