Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The police in have their hands full with liquor, illicit cigarettes, firearms, ammo and precious metals confiscated in the province.
The police have arrested 945 suspects for a variety of crimes between October 12 and 19, across all five districts as part of Operation Shanela 2 operations. Out of the 945 arrested suspects, it is worth noting that 466 were arrested by the detectives as those on the circulated wanted suspects’ lists. The suspects were arrested for a variety of crimes, and they included 54 Illegal immigrants.
NW shows force for safer festive season
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The North West government has formally launched its Safer Festive Season Operational Plan 2025/2026, a comprehensive strategy to combat the heightened risk of crime and ensure safety during the holiday period. Spearheaded by the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) Cluster, the operation runs from October 1, to January 31 next year, in conjunction with Operation Shanela.
Upcoming SASSA payment dates
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - SASSA grant beneficiaries should be aware of the payment dates in November. The payment for the Older Persons Grant will be disbursed on November 4. This grant provides essential monthly financial support to elderly individuals in need, helping them maintain a basic standard of living. Beneficiaries of the Disability Grant will receive their payments on November 5.
Cops investigate cause of crash
Lentswe, Orkney - The police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after one of the injured passengers in a motor vehicle accident last week, died in hospital. Another victim is still in hospital with serious injuries. Brig Sabatha Mokgwabone, police spokesperson, said the accident happened on Thursday October 16 on the R502 between Orkney and Vaal Reefs.
Luxury vehicles seized in fraud investigation - CFO: “It’s all lies’’
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The news last week of the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) seizing three luxury vehicles connected to a high-profile fraud and corruption case involving the City of Matlosana’s Chief Financial Officer, Mercy Phetla, and five co-accused spread like wildfire. In a video on the social media platform TikTok, Phetla responded to the report saying it was malicious and not true. She said she is unaware of any preservation order or vehicle repossession involving her.
