Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Department of Basic Education has gazetted new policy changes for determining school calendars in South Africa for public comment. The main change being implemented by the DBE is to remove all differentiation between coastal and inland schools and to formally get rid of the staggered school calendar. South Africa has historically adopted a staggered school calendar where inland schools started a week earlier than their coastal counterparts.
NW youth elected to World Youth Forum
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Two members of the Youth in Agriculture and Rural Development (YARD) in the province were elected to serve in the Youth Chapter of the World Food Forum South Africa.
The newly elected representatives are Thabo Makoa, who will serve as Chairperson of the Youth Chapter, and Lesedi Gaaboe, elected to the Policy and Strategy portfolio. Both leaders hail from the North West and are members of the provincial YARD leadership structure. The MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development in the NW, Madoda Sambatha, commended and congratulated the two for their remarkable achievement.

Premier welcomes two point drop in NW jobless rate
Lentswe, Mahikeng - The North West Provincial Government has welcomed the latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey figures from Statistics South Africa, which show a two percentage point decline in the province’s unemployment rate for the third quarter of this year. Premier Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi noted that the report indicates the North West successfully created 42 000 jobs between July and September 2025.
N12 traffic warning
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Law enforcement is preparing for a potential confrontation tomorrow morning, Thursday, November 6, as organisers plan to proceed with a march on the N12 highway, despite official warnings that the gathering is illegal.
