The new fleet includes a state-of-the-art fire engine and three Land Cruisers. The fire engine is equipped with modern features, including a built-in camera, an electronic step ladder, and powerful floodlights, enhancing the municipality’s ability to combat structural fires. The Land Cruisers will be utilised to respond to grass and veld fires.

Lentswe, Klerksdorp – The Safer Festive Season Shanela II operations resulted in the arrest of suspects and the seizure of a variety of illegal contrabands, 33 rounds of ammunition, three vehicles, a variety of drugs, and liquor. These operations took place between November 3 and 9. In the same period, a total of 1 426 suspects were arrested for different crimes.

Lentswe, Mahikeng - The Mahikeng-based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit seeks public assistance in locating a man who is linked to a fraud case. In May 2022, a woman from Mahikeng was defrauded over R800 000 by her boyfriend, who is believed to be an Ugandan national. According to Lt-Col Tinyiko Mathebula, spokesperson, reports indicate that the woman was told by her boyfriend to resign from her work and take all her pension money to a prayer room where it would be blessed by her ancestors.
29 Learners crammed in 15 seater taxi

The incident this week prompted the MEC to issue a firm statement, appealing to all stakeholders to prioritise the safety of learners, especially as they are currently writing examinations.
Big changes for school calendars on the cards
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Department of Basic Education has gazetted new policy changes for determining school calendars in South Africa for public comment. The main change being implemented by the DBE is to remove all differentiation between coastal and inland schools and to formally get rid of the staggered school calendar. South Africa has historically adopted a staggered school calendar where inland schools started a week earlier than their coastal counterparts.
